Our Team

Phil Costner
Founder & Lead Consultant
Phil's first manufacturing job was as a Production Planner, later production manager, of Carolina Precision Manufacturing, a Swiss-turn CNC job shop in North Carolina. The founder of CPM was a former Infor ERP salesman who built his company around the idea he could leverage the ERP system much better than many his former customers. As such, the founder taught Phil all the ins and outs of the Infor VISUAL ERP system.
Combining the insights from the ERP system and his own engineering training and natural knack for process improvement, Phil was able to make numerous positive changes that helped CPM more than double in size over 5 years. Later Six Sigma training would teach Phil that many of these ideas - work cells, visual work instructions, Kanban, etc. - were core tenets of lean manufacturing.
After leaving CPM, Phil built a fully custom ERP system using FileMaker for a contract medical device manufacturer specializing in small volume medical implants and assemblies. This company had a wide array of operations and process types - traditional machining types, additive manufacturing, assembly and welding, disassembly and repair, and so on. Phil was able to provide them with an ERP that not only managed all these different processes, but also included features like custom KPIs, individual employee dashboards, employee review management, a sales-based production bonus with real-time tracking, and much more.
Later, Phil served as a Master Scheduler for a medical device manufacturer that both had OEM products and did contract manufacturing for the biggest companies in medical devices. As Master Scheduler, Phil was part of the corporate SIOP team in addition to his local scheduling duties. This company had annual revenues over $300MM, while Phil was directly responsible for about $50MM per year.
Phil's final position before founder Gubady Production Services was as Materials Manager for aerospace job shop serving primarily Honeywell. This company had a custom ERP system that lacked basic materials functionality; it didn't track router material requirements or raw material inventory, among other issues. Phil was able to institute numerous lean changes and improve OTD, lead times, and other KPIs but was not able to overcome the lack of basic ERP tools and upper management's disinterest in such tools. He founded Gubady Production Services in the hope of saving others the same pain.
